Who’s Next – A Race Week Speculation

Next week is Norn Week, sooner than most of us excepted. As ArenaNet said: there isn’t going to be a Race Week every week(, but every two weeks). So, in one day, we get to know more about the Norn. Some are happy about it, others would’ve liked to see another Race. But people, it wasn’t going to be the Sylvari. Why? Because it is ArenaNet’s big new thing.

A whole new Race coming to life, not older than a couple of years. Everybody wants to know about it, and almost everybody wants to play them (although they don’t admit it). So why give your big surprise right away, when you can build up tension so that, when it’s Sylvari Week, everybody is going to go crazy. And, in the mean time, everybody is going to follow the other Weeks. When you release the Sylvari now, everybody is going to talk about them and they’re going to weaken interest in the other Weeks. You would lose a big part of your public. And, they also want to make the Sylvari just right, so they’re going to keep working on them until they just HAVE to show it.

Now, what is going to happen after Norn Week. Norn Week is going to happen two weeks after Human Week, so that’s easy math. If ArenaNet sticks to a schedule with this, the next week is going to be from March 7th – 11th. Why do I think there is a schedule, while they tend to release information sporadically (see profession reveal and no release date)? Because this isn’t about perfection. They finished the Races (except maybe the Sylvari) and can always change something they didn’t like after all.

So, according to me, the next Week is going to be from March 7th – 11th and is going to be about the Charr. Why the Charr? Well, the Charr Race has already been seen in Guild Wars and in the Guild Wars 2 demo extensively and that’s why it’s so obvious that it has to be next. It surprised me that they weren’t next after the humans, but come to think of it, Norn was becoming an unpopular Race. They were only seen as a Warrior, Ranger and maybe Guardian, but not as an Elementalist, Necromacer and unconfirmed Mesmer and Assassin. Maybe they want to promote the Norn this way, and show of how great the Animal Transformations can be so people get hyped about the Norn again.

If you wonder why I think Charr are next and not Asura, I will explain. The Asura are the second most hated, loved, speculated and hyped Races after the Sylvari. They are the Golem Race, the Technology Race. They are small, cocky, smart and badass monsters that everybody wants to be. Although they have been mocked and hated by the fans because of their cuteness and height, they are a Race that seems interesting. ArenaNet was creating them and making them come alive as we saw in the ArenaNet retrospective video and maybe they want to keep their hard work secret for a little while longer. That way, when they are released, everybody can hype about them without the interruption of a previous, more interesting release and build up to the Sylvari Week.

So, this is my schedule:

21 – 25 February: Norn Week
7 – 11 March: Charr Week
21 – 25 March: Asura Week
4 – 8 or 11 – 15 April: Sylvari Week (maybe an extra week for adjusting the Sylvari)

Now, something we can’t forget is the new demo that’s going to be released at PAX East on 11 March. And by coincidence, the event starts 6 weeks after the release of the Guardian. Now, in the past, the normal intervals between profession releases was 6 weeks, and because I think this will be the case again, I think that we might have a “necromancer-release” on PAX East. A new profession, besides the Guardian, will be playable on PAX East while there wasn’t an official release yet. So that may disturb the Weeks schedule a bit, because it is very unlikely that ArenaNet is going to release a new profession AND do a Race Week.

So, if there is a necromancer-release at PAX East, the schedule will be like this:

21 – 25 February: Norn Week
7 – 11 March: Charr Week
11 – 13 March: PAX East
Somewhere between 14 – 18 March: Official Profession Release
Somewhere between 21 – 25 March: New profession link roundup
4 – 8 April: Asura Week
18 – 21 April: Sylvari Week

It appears that the hype train has started again, now the question is how many stops there are left before the release of Guild Wars 2.
But, whatever may happen, we are sure of one thing: tomorrow, we will know more about the Norn.

Necromancer-release: a necromancer kind of release: shown at the demo but not officially released.

    awesome blog btw

  2. Well its official this week is Charr. I agree with you on the Sylvari release theory. I say that because Charr week got bumped up to this week and Arena Net has been known to randomly release information this could also include a premature release of Sylvari race week. Which would in turn create the question, what are they doing with the Asura? And why is it apparently according to this blog bigger then the Sylvari? Thus potentially creating more hype in Asura, rather then Sylvari. Which would be strange but completely plausible.
